จังหวัดภูเก็ต เป็นจังหวัดหนึ่งทางภาคใต้ของประเทศไทย เป็นเกาะขนาดใหญ่ที่สุดในประเทศไทย มีลักษณะต่างจากจังหวัดอื่นอย่างสิ้นเชิง เพราะเป็นจังหวัดเดียวในประเทศไทยที่พื้นที่ของจังหวัดทั้งหมดเป็นเกาะในมหาสมุทรอินเดีย
จังหวัดที่ใกล้เคียงทางทิศเหนือ คือ จังหวัดพังงา ทางทิศตะวันออก คือ จังหวัดพังงาและจังหวัดกระบี่ ทั้งเกาะล้อมรอบด้วยมหาสมุทรอินเดีย และยังมีเกาะที่อยู่ในอาณาเขตของจังหวัดภูเก็ตทางทิศใต้และตะวันออก การเดินทางเข้าสู่ภูเก็ตนอกจากทางเรือแล้ว สามารถเดินทางโดยรถยนต์ซึ่งมีเพียงเส้นทางเดียวผ่านทางจังหวัดพังงา โดยข้ามสะพานสารสินและสะพานคู่ขนาน คือ สะพานท้าวเทพกระษัตรีและสะพานท้าวศรีสุนทร เพื่อเข้าสู่ตัวจังหวัด และทางอากาศโดยมีท่าอากาศยานนานาชาติภูเก็ตรองรับ
"ภูเก็ต" ได้ชื่อว่าเป็นไข่มุกแห่งอันดามัน เมืองท่องเที่ยวที่มีชื่อเสียงไปทั่วโลก ในด้านความสวยงามของทิวทัศน์ และหาดทราย น้ำทะเลสีฟ้าใส พร้อมด้วยสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกทางการท่องเที่ยวครบครัน เป็นเกาะที่ใหญ่ที่สุดของประเทศไทย มีฐานะเป็นจังหวัดหนึ่งในภาคใต้ ตั้งอยู่ทางชายฝั่งทะเลตะวันตกของประเทศไทยในน่านน้ำทะเลอันดามัน มหาสมุทรอินเดีย มีพื้นที่ประมาณ 543 ตารางกิโลเมตร ความยาวสุดของเกาะภูเก็ตวัดจากทิศเหนือถึงทิศใต้ประมาณ 48.7 กิโลเมตร และส่วนกว้างที่สุดวัดจากทิศตะวันออกถึงทิศตะวันตกประมาณ 21.3 กิโลเมตร ภูเก็ตแบ่งออกเป็น 3 อำเภอ คือ อำเภอเมือง อำเภอถลาง และอำเภอกะทู้
